News UK Appoints Sky Media As Sales House For TalkTV

  • New voice in news, current affairs and opinion launching across linear and connected platforms on 25 April
  • Primetime weeknight schedule includes Piers Morgan Uncensored and The Talk with Sharon Osbourne
  • Sky Media to offer broad range of linear and on-demand advertising and sponsorship opportunities

News UK has appointed Sky Media to manage advertising sales for TalkTV, a major new voice in news, current affairs and opinion.

TalkTV will launch on 25 April and be available to all UK viewers across a range of linear TV platforms, including Sky, Freeview and Freesat. TalkTV will also be streamed via Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Samsung TV Plus and on YouTube, as well as via the Talk.TV website and TalkTV iOS and Android apps.

The primetime schedule for TalkTV will bring together the peerless journalism of News UK with a must-watch prime time schedule including Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, Tom Newton Dunn and many more familiar faces to be announced.

The new partnership with Sky Media will give them responsibility for all of TalkTV’s linear advertising, in addition to on-demand, while broader sponsorship opportunities will be managed collaboratively by News UK and Sky Media. As part of the partnership, TalkTV will also be launching on Sky’s new streaming TV, Sky Glass, in the coming months.

The new channel will be launched with a heavyweight marketing campaign across mainstream and digital channels, as well as through News UK’s portfolio of brands – including The Sun, The Times & The Sunday Times, talkSPORT, Virgin Radio and Times Radio – which together reach almost 40 million people each month.

Scott Taunton, EVP, President of Broadcasting for News UK, said: “Everyone in the UK will be able to access TalkTV and its programming, live or on-demand, either on their television or on any personal device. Working with Sky Media, we’re going to be offering advertisers a broad range of innovative partnership opportunities that will let them reach this audience in new and engaging ways.”

David Wilcox, Commercial Director, News Broadcasting, added: “There are huge synergies for TalkTV through News Broadcasting’s brands and the wider News UK portfolio, both in terms of driving a large and engaged audience but also through the ability to create some truly unique cross-platform campaigns for clients backed up with News UK’s established expertise in rich audience data.

Ruth Cartwright, Investment Director, Sky Media, said: “NewsUK have fantastic credentials in news, sport and entertainment and so we’re delighted to be working with them as they launch this new venture. We look forward to collaborating with the TalkTV team to offer agencies and brands exciting advertising and partnerships opportunities across the spectrum of their content offering.

TalkTV comes to market with a diverse and innovative commercial model to maximise opportunities for partner brands. As well as traditional linear spot ads, there will be innovative sponsorship and social media monetisation opportunities. There will also be the potential to create multi-platform commercial opportunities across News UK’s different brands.

TalkTV’s primetime schedule will also be simulcast on TalkRadio. And TalkRadio’s roster of daytime talent, including Julia Hartley-Brewer, Mike Graham, Ian Collins and Jeremy Kyle, will be broadcast on TalkTV. TalkRadio has seen fast growth in recent years across all platforms, including digital radio and the TalkRadio app, on YouTube and has been broadcasting successfully on TalkRadio TV since last year.

TalkTV will begin broadcasting live in the UK on Monday 25 April from state-of-the-art studio facilities in Ealing and at News UK’s News Building headquarters in London Bridge.
